Although Asatte Press does not have any fulltime job openings at the moment, we do have some immediate and near-term freelance opportunities.
Proofreader
Asatte Press has immediate opportunities for proofreaders. These are small projects like a single chapter of a book, a set of web pages, or a brochure. Since these vary in format, Asatte Press pays a competitive rate on a $/word basis.
- Scope – This is “Mechanical Editing” as
described in section 2.49 of the Chicago Manual of Style 17th Edition.
- Chicago Manual of Study 17th Edition, Part II
- Chicago Manual of Study 17th Edition, Part III (Some editing assignments will include bibliographies and similar material.)
- Simple typographical errors not specifically mentioned in the Chicago Manual of Style
- NOT In Scope –
Substantive Editing
as described in section 2.50 of the Chicago Manual of Style 17th Edition.- Restructuring of the text (except as needed to correct In Scope problems)
- Alternative information presentation theories
- Opinions about writing quality
- Editing Guide – Generally, Asatte Press follows the Chicago Manual of Style. A guide will be provided covering exceptions to the CMS and formatting guidelines.
- Payment – Asatte Press can pay by check, PayPal, or Venmo. Asatte Press is willing to consider other forms of electronic payment as long as they are simple and easy to set up.

Marketing Copy Editor
During the second half of 2020, Asatte Press will be producing a very small amount of marketing copy such as webpage content, book covers, and brochures. These projects will be small (tiny, actually) and Asatte Press will have a very limited budget for this sort of work. Think: dinner at a pleasant restaurant. The budget and the size of the projects will be two orders of magnitude too small for any established agency that needs to pay rent on a fancy office. However, these small projects might be of interest for a freelancer just getting started and looking for real-world practice.

Writing Coach
During the second half of 2020, Asatte Press expects to
start expanding our roster of authors. The expansion will
probably occur in our engineering book portfolio. We may
have opportunities for writing coaches to work on an hourly
basis. The scope will include Substantive Editing
as
described in section 2.50 of the Chicago Manual of Style
17th Edition and possibly even some level of Developmental Editing
as mentioned in 2.48 of the CMS.
